  1. A gorge is a narrow steep-sided valley (or 
  2. canyon) that may or may not have a river at 
  3. the bottom. A gorge may be formed as a 
  4. waterfall retreats upstream, eroding away the 
  5. rock at the base of a river valley, or it may 
  6. be caused by rejuvenation, when a river 
  7. begins to cut downwards into its channel once 
  8. again (e.g. in response to a fall in sea 
  9. level). Gorges are common in limestone 
  10. countrys.
